Winning this year's Cooper-Hewitt National Design Award for interior design wasn't an easy task for William Sofield. "I gathered my life's work in a brutally short period of time," he says. That life's work includes boutiques for Gucci, Tom Ford and Bottega Veneta, as well as a Bel-Air house he's currently designing around an A-list art collection. "It's an intense project," admits Sofield, who often finds décor elements while shopping in the West Village. One of his favorite places in the area is Aedes De Venustas, which specializes in home fragrances from around the world.
